Director provides bi-directional connectivity to two leading industrial cloud platforms out of the box - ASW IoT SiteWise and Siemens Insights Hub. Director integrates with platform service APIs for handling timeseries, asset, event, state, and context data.

Industrial Data Visualizations

Director provides more than 40 data renderers tuned for industrial use cases. Combine traditional graph and gauge widgets with advanced renderers for asset, state, fleet, and location data to deliver intuitive, glanceable visualizations for your users.

Advanced User Navigation

In addition to tools for creating brilliant visualizations and layouts, Director provides advanced UX navigation controls. Developers can easily build context-driven applications, data-enriched workflows, and digital work instructions for frontline teams.

Theming and Localization

Director gives admin users access to a theme editor that allows complete control over all UI display properties. Developers can also use resource bundles to localize apps to run in multiple geographies and support required language translations.

Visual Flow Creation

Director includes the Edge2Web flow editor, a low-code developer tool for applications requiring rich UIs, dynamic navigation, and complex logic. The flow editor includes tools for data inspection, versioning, debugging, workspace isolation, and GitHub integration.

WYSIWYG Screen and Page Layouts

Director's WYSIWYG screen editor enables you to create composite UI elements that include display, navigation, and user input controls. Director pages include classic grid layouts, and spatial layouts for location tracking and process manufacturing use cases.

Edge2Web Application Accelerators

Building on Director's core developer productivity benefits, Edge2Web provides a curated library of pre-built application components for asset browsing and selection, date/time management, timeseries data manipulation, and other common industrial use cases..

Performance and Scale

At runtime, Director flows execute in the end user's browser, leveraging local compute power to optimize performance and scale. Each page cell can be configured to refresh at its own interval to support dashboards that display data moving at different velocities.

Edge2Web Flow Server

BUILD BACK-END PROCESSES THAT ORCHESTRATE,  INTEGRATE, AND COMMUNICATE

Edge2Web Flow Server is a data and service orchestration solution for building and operating powerful back-end industrial applications. Flow Server apps provide secure, bi-directional access to all data and services available in your cloud infrastructure.

Use Flow Server to monitor asset health, acquire and update materials locations, integrate data from plant systems and datastores, pre-compute and store complex KPIs, and much more.

Flow Server’s scheduler console allows administrators to easily configure task execution plans. The log console gives admins immediate access to task execution status and history. And the Flow Server back-end engine is callable by Edge2Web Director front-end applications.

Flow Server is the ultimate tool for building powerful back-end data orchestration, computation, and integration processes.

Edge2Web Flow Server Key Features

Secure Connectivity

Flow Server leverages Edge2Web’s platform connectivity tier, giving your applications secure, bi-directional access to all of the rich services in your industrial cloud, including assets, timeseries, analytics, events, files, notifications, and much more.

Task Data Caching

In process, batch and other back-end applications, it is often necessary to pass state information across sequential task executions. Flow Server tasks share data directly across executions, eliminating the cost and complexity of manual data caching.

Parallel Execution

Although many flow-based applications execute processes sequentially, performance gains can often be achieved when steps execute in parallel. Flow Server provides a parallel step type for applications that require concurrent task execution.

Full-stack Accessibility

In addition to providing admin consoles for flow scheduling monitoring, Flow Server tasks are also accessible to Edge2Web Director-based front-end applications, enabling batch task management to be easily integrated with custom operating processes.

Learn Once, Use Everywhere Development Model

Back-end application developers build Flow Server apps using the Edge2Web flow editor, the same tool used by Director front-end developers. Edge2Web low-code tools give full-stack developers a single, integrated toolchain for custom IoT application development.

Edge2Web Low-code Developer Tools FAQs

Edge2Web Director and Flow Server are deeply integrated with two leading industrial IoT cloud services – AWS IoT SiteWise and Siemens Insights Hub. Director and Flow Server based applications can read data from, and write data to, both of the supported platforms.

Data visualization and BI/reporting tools fill the need for simple analysis and display. However, many industrial use cases require full programmability to support rich end user experiences, dynamic navigation, complex logic and workflows, and other custom functionalities.

Edge2Web Director includes over 40 data renderers for hierarchical, timeseries, state, event, fleet, and other data types common to industrial use cases. Developers use Director’s screen and page editors to create brilliant, glanceable user interfaces. Unlike lightweight alternatives, however, Director also provides an integrated developer environment with all of the tools needed to rapidly build apps of unlimited sophistication that engage, inform, and empower users at all organizational levels.

Yes. Screens and flows created in Edge2Web Director can be easily rendered in EPT dashboards, enabling you to mix-and-match no-code and low-code components to meet your needs. Director-based visualizations can include sophisticated multi-screen workflows and user data inputs, adding dynamic navigation and user interactivity to your EPT dashboards.

EPT is packaged as a stand-alone service and is also bundled at no additional cost with Edge2Web Director, Edge2Web Factory Insights, and EasyEdge2Web.

Yes. Director-based flows can be integrated with a vast ecosystem of services from AWS, Siemens, and other providers via REST, MQTT, SNS, and JDBC.

Yes. Director includes a bundled license to Edge2Web Power Tools (EPT), which supports three layout patterns:

  • Scorecard – used primarily for displaying data from multiple assets such as cells, lines, areas, fleets, and custom groups.
  • Grid –  classic row/column layout typically used for single asset dashboards.
  • Spatial – layouts that use images such as maps, factory floorplans, and other spatial backgrounds.

EPT provides a spatial layout editor for positioning display widgets such as graphs, cards, dials, and gauges on top of background images such as floorplans, maps, and P&I diagrams.

Flow Server is the ultimate solution for back-end IIoT applications that run on defined intervals. Popular use cases include:

  • Asset Condition Monitoring – Plant operations teams need visibility into the current operating conditions of critical infrastructure. Flow Server apps can monitor asset conditions at per-second latency, detect anomalous behaviors, and alert users outside of the SCADA control network of potential problems.
  • Data Conditioning and Analytics –  Flow Server is often used to aggregate, consolidate, and contextualize data prior to executing KPI computations and analytic services (e.g., predictive maintenance). Flow Server tasks can drive value-added services in sequences and/or in parallel to produce required outcomes.
  • System and Data Integration – Flow Server is often used to build back-end applications that automate the flow of information across key OT and IT systems. For example, a leading F&B manufacturer uses Flow Server to notify scheduling and order management systems when critical  machines require unscheduled maintenance.

Yes. All Edge2Web solutions have been reviewed and approved as well-architected offerings via the AWS Foundational Technical Review process. This designation ensures you that Edge2Web conforms to AWS best practices in product development and devops, security, performance, delivery, and support processes.
