Where will our data be stored when we use EPT?

Edge2Web Power Tools services read your data from AWS IoT SiteWise, a leading industrial cloud. SiteWise is a secure, scalable IIoT service that runs in your AWS account – so you data is always under your custody. A powerful benefit of storing your data in SiteWise is the flexibility to use your data with analytics, machine learning, AI, and other cloud services. You have control of your data, and the flexibility to use it with Edge2Web solutions and with other high-value industrial services.

Can we create our own KPI formulas and visualizations using EPT?

Yes, authorized EPT users can quickly create custom KPI formulas and visualizations for end users at all levels of your company. EPT’s no-code model allows authorized plant engineers, data analysts, quality analysts, and other non-programmers to build rich custom analytics and visualizations, and add those custom pages to end user app menus.

For existing SiteWise users, EPT also supports migration of operational dashboards created in the AWS IoT SiteWise Monitor, enabling you to run those dashboards off-console alongside your other Edge2Web managed services.

You can also extend your EPT account to include Edge2Web Director for ultimate programmability. Director is a powerful option for integrating your EPT apps with other related systems and datastores.

Can we integrate application components built in Edge2Web Director with EPT?

Yes. Screens and flows created in Edge2Web Director can be easily rendered in EPT dashboards, enabling you to mix-and-match no-code and low-code components to meet your needs. Director-based visualizations can include sophisticated multi-screen workflows and user data inputs, adding dynamic navigation and user interactivity to your EPT dashboards.

EPT is packaged as a stand-alone service and is also bundled at no additional cost with Edge2Web Director, Edge2Web Factory Insights, and EasyEdge2Web.

Can we integrate EPT formulas and dashoards with external services such as ML, analytics, and AI?

Yes. Edge2Web Director, which includes EPT as a bundled solution, enables integration with AWS and ecosystem services via REST, MQTT, and JDBC APIs. You can invoke Director flows from EPT formulas and dashboards, thereby creating a direct path for external service integration.

Can we use EPT to display visualizations on backgrounds such as P&I diagrams?

Yes. EPT supports three layout patterns:

Scorecard – used primarily for displaying data from multiple assets such as cells, lines, areas, fleets, and custom groups.
Grid – classic row/column layout typically used for single asset dashboards.
Spatial – layouts that use images such as maps, factory floorplans, and other spatial backgrounds.

EPT provides a spatial layout editor for positioning display widgets such as graphs, cards, dials, and gauges on top of background images such as P&I diagrams.

Can EPT apps perform near-realtime asset monitoring?

Yes. Although EPT is not intended to replace the SCADA HMIs running on your control networks, EPT-based apps can be used to visualize production data moving at single-second velocities. EPT is an excellent choice for production monitoring dashboards running in control rooms, in service centers, and on mobile devices.

Do Edge2Web Power Tools comply with AWS best practices?

Yes. All Edge2Web solutions have been reviewed and approved as well-architected offerings via the AWS Foundational Technical Review process. This designation ensures you that Edge2Web conforms to AWS best practices in product development and devops, security, performance, delivery, and support processes.

How is EPT licensed and priced?

EPT is licensed under a SaaS subscription model and can be purchased on the AWS Marketplace. You will be charged a low monthly fee for each monthly user of the EPT service. Your EPT app administrator controls who can access the service, with full visibility into usage and activity details.

How is security handled in EPT?

The EPT service connects to your AWS IoT SiteWise service via IAM. Your EPT app administrator will then authorize users to access EPT and defines each user’s group(s) and access policies, which can be configured to control access to tools, menus, and factory assets. EPT administrators control who has access to the service, what parts of the service they are permitted to use, and what asset data they are permitted to view.
